We’ve spent the last week at Easterlin County Park in Fort Lauderdale. In preparation for our time here, we had the kids watch the greatest movie ever set in Fort Lauderdale, Disney’s The Flight of the Navigator. Unfortunately, we did not see any NASA anomalies or fly in a spacecraft; in fact, we never even visited one of southern Florida’s famed beaches to glimpse the Atlantic Ocean, or more accurately, the Straits of Florida.
What we did instead was to take a week to find our new rhythm and enjoy the sunshine. We met new friends and had jump rope competitions, we played disc golf and bottle bash and set up elaborate traps for squirrels and spent hours standing still enough to attempt to catch lizards. We took two nights and drove west through Alligator Alley (Ben saw one in a canal!!) to Fort Myers to visit with Grandma and Grandpa, swim in their amazing pool, play shuffleboard and tennis, and take night walks under palm trees and stars. And we even managed a full work week and learning time, too!
